The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
