The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
