The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:
- Each team has only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
