A man who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both nine and ten years old.
The accused was arrested after eight minors and one adult became sick at the facility in July.
The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on 28 November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, described the criminal behavior to the court.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he managed.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the individual's items."
The legal counsel explained materials including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his worries.
She said Ruben proceeded to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.
The prosecutor said the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She stated the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a room of five children.
