New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.
Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.
“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are holding up and he will walk away from this just fine.”
The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.
“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “But I will say this, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. And again, that reassures me, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”
NYPD issued surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.
The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The assailant escaped.
Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. The coach said that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.
“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn remarked. “And I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd did not participate during the current season, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on mid-August with a shoulder issue that required surgery.
He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on early August and had to be helped off.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.
“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”
Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of the University of Texas in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
