Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.

In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
