Ex- Physician Accused of Sexual Assault Allegations Involving 38 Patients

Prosecutors have announced that a former doctor now faces charges for performing sexual assaults involving thirty-eight individuals who were patients.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a detailed and complex investigation, carefully reviewing the evidence to establish that there is a strong case to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

These allegations come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents said the 45 charges include:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • 3 counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.

Authorities have asked anyone with concerns to contact the investigating team.
