Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his future following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard discussions I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
